MARINE CORPS LEAGUE
CONSTITUTION AND BY-LAWS
PREAMBLE
In thee name of the Beneficent God of all, we who have honorably
served or are now honorably serving our Country in the United
States Marine Corps, for the common good of this Nation and all
the nations and people in this world, in order that the fundamental
rights and freedoms of every person may be preserved, to foster
interest in the affairs of the United States Marine Corps, to
protect and advance the welfare of wounded or disabled Marines
and their dependents, and for the further purposes as set forth
hereinafter, do solemnly and firmly associate ourselves together
in a non-profit corporation known as the Marine Corps League,
Incorporated, and ordain and establish this Constitution.
This
Detachment having been chartered on April 30, 1977 by the Marine
Corps League National Organization, incorporated by the Congress
of the United States on August 4, 1937, shall take over all the
property and obligations and continue the affairs of the previously
unchartered Marine Corps League, DuPage County Detachment, pursuant
to such charter, and for the objects and purposes therein set
forth, it is hereby provided as follows:
ARTICLE
I NAME
Section 1.
The
name of the organization shall be:
Marine Corps League, DuPage County Detachment
ARTICLE II
SEAL
Section 1. The Detachment seal shall be round in shape, containing
in the center thereof a replica of the United States Marine Corps
Emblem, surrounded by the words "Semper Fidelis Marine
Corps League-DuPage County Det."
ARTICLE III PURPOSES
Section 1.
The
purpose of this organization shall be:
A.
To preserve the traditions and to promote the interests of the
United States Marine Corps.
B.
To band those who are now serving in the United Sates Marine Corps
and those who have been honorably discharges from that service
together in fellowship, that they may effectively promote the
ideals of American freedom and democracy.
C To
fit it's members for the duties of citizenship and to encourage
them to serve as able citizens as they served the Nation under
arms.
D.
To hold sacred the history and memory of the men who have given
their lives to the Nation.
E.
To foster love for the principles which they have supported by
blood and valor since founding the Republic.
F.
To maintain true allegiance to American institutions.
G.
To create a bond of comradeship between those in service and those
who have returned to civilian life.
H.
To aid voluntarily and to render assistance to all Marines and
former Marines as well as their widows and orphans.
I.
To perpetuate the history of the United States Marine Corps by
fitting acts,, to observe the anniversaries of historical occasions
of particular interest to Marines.
Section
2.
Further
objectives and purposes of this organization shall be:
A.
To assist, when and wherever possible, the fathers, mothers and
dependents of deceased Marines.
B.
To strive for passage of legislation favorable to the United States
Marine Corps, to the Officers and men of the active service and
to honorably discharged Marines.
C.
To urge the participation of all members in patriotic functions
and other civic, state or National affairs as are of particular
interest to Marines.
ARTICLE IV POLICY
Section 1.
The
Detachment shall be non-political, non-partisan and nonsectarian.
The
name of this Detachment shall not be used by any Officer or member
to future the desires or wishes of any member in any political,
sectarian or labor disputes, nor shall it be biased on the grounds
of race, color, creed, nationality or sex, nor shall former or
present military rank of former or present civilian position be
used as the basis for special consideration or preferment
Section 2.
Nothing
in the above section shall prohibit the Detachment from participating
in political issues which may affect the welfare of the United
States Marine Corps, or any member's claim for disabilities incurred
in the service of the United States.
